Most exist in the tropics, but some come from the Mediterranean, southern Europe, the tropics of Asia and Africa, as well as South America and southern regions of the United States.
Palm trees are known to be monopodial, meaning coming from one stem. In most palm trees, the stems tend to be covered with stiff fibers
Fruit
Certain types of palm trees develop fruit and some edible fruit.
Some palms shed the fronds naturally while other delay the process. Many palm tree varieties need manual pruning. You should not prune the fronds too close to the trunk. Pruning excessively can lead to increased vulnerability to diseases along with limiting the tree’s ability to tolerate warm conditions.
Palms are the Great choice for low-maintenance landscapes but most species need only a bare minimum of water to survive.
Most palm trees that live in tropical environments are not very cold tolerant at all. Most will die or become extremely damaged in temperatures that dip below freezing, but some have the ability to withstand cold temperatures. The most cold-hardy palm is generally considered to be the needle palm. This palm is planted outside with very little protection in areas as far north as New York City. It can withstand temperatures as low as 20 degrees below zero.
My personal favorites are.
